This is the man that shoots the haresA
This is the coat he always wearsA
With game bag powder horn and gunB
He's going out to have some funB
-
He finds it hard without a pairC
Of spectacles to shoot the hareC
The hare sits snug in leaves and grassD
And laughs to see the green man passD
-
Now as the sun grew very hotE
And he a heavy gun had gotE
He lay down underneath a treeF
And went to sleep as you may seeF
And while he slept like any topG
The little hare came hop hop hopG
Took gun and spectacles and thenH
On her hind legs went off againH
-
The green man wakes and sees her placeI
The spectacles upon her faceI
And now she's trying all she canJ
To shoot the sleepy green coat manJ
He cries and screams and runs awayK
The hare runs after him all dayK
And hears him call out everywhereC
Help Fire Help The Hare The HareC
-
At last he stumbled at the wellL
Head over ears and in he fellL
The hare stopped short took aim and harkM
Bang went the gun she missed her markM
-
The poor man's wife was drinking upN
Her coffee in her coffee cupN
The gun shot cup and saucer throughO
Oh dear cried she what shall I doO
There lived close by the cottage thereC
The hare's own child the little hareC
And while she stood upon her toesP
The coffee fell and burned her noseP
Oh dear she cried with spoon in handQ
Such fun I do not understandQ
