The Little Glutton Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED EEEE FGEGHIJIGKLKMEKENOKO PEQEEQEQ

Oh how this Mary loved to eatA
It was her chief delightB
She would have something sour or sweetA
To munch from morn till nightB
She to the pantry daily stoleC
And slyly she would takeD
Sugar and plums and sweetmeats tooE
And apples nuts and cakeD
-
-
Her mother Mary oft reprovedE
But ah it did no goodE
Munch nibble chew from morn to nightE
The little glutton wouldE
-
-
One day upon some bee hives nearF
She chanced to cast her eyesG
How nice that honey there must tasteE
She cried and off she fliesG
On tiptoe now the hives she nearsH
Close up to them she creepsI
And through the little window panesJ
Quite cautiously she peepsI
Oh dear how good it looks she criesG
As she the honey seesK
I must I will indeed have someL
It cannot hurt the beesK
And then a hive she gently liftsM
Oh foolish foolish childE
Down down it falls out swarm the beesK
Buzzing with fury wildE
With fright she shrieks and tries to runN
But ah 'tis all in vainO
Upon her light the angry beesK
And make her writhe with painO
-
-
Four weeks and more did Mary lieP
Upon her little bedE
And ah instead of honey sheQ
On medicine was fedE
Her parents grieved so much at firstE
Their child so sick to seeQ
But once more well with joy they foundE
Her cured of gluttonyQ
