Voyages I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEF GHCI JKLMNOP

IA
-
Above the fresh ruffles of the surfB
Bright striped urchins flay each other with sandC
They have contrived a conquest for shell shucksD
And their fingers crumble fragments of baked weedE
Gaily digging and scatteringF
-
And in answer to their treble interjectionsG
The sun beats lightning on the wavesH
The waves fold thunder on the sandC
And could they hear me I would tell themI
-
O brilliant kids frisk with your dogJ
Fondle your shells and sticks bleachedK
By time and the elements but there is a lineL
You must not cross nor ever trust beyond itM
Spry cordage of your bodies to caressesN
Too lichen faithful from too wide a breastO
The bottom of the sea is cruelP

Kenneth Ellis: A favourite, though, I think, dismissed by Hart Crane as not so good.
