Milk For The Cat Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE CGHG IFJF KLFL MNON PQRQ STUT VBVB

When the tea is brought at five o'clockA
And all the neat curtains are drawn with careB
The little black cat with bright green eyesC
Is suddenly purring thereB
-
At first she pretends having nothing to doD
She has come in merely to blink by the grateE
But though tea may be late or the milk may be sourF
She is never lateE
-
And presently her agate eyesC
Take a soft large milky hazeG
And her independent casual glanceH
Becomes a stiff hard gazeG
-
Then she stamps her claws or lifts her earsI
Or twists her tail and begins to stirF
Till suddenly all her lithe body becomesJ
One breathing trembling purrF
-
The children eat and wriggle and laughK
The two old ladies stroke their silkL
But the cat is grown small and thin with desireF
Transformed to a creeping lust for milkL
-
The white saucer like some full moon descendsM
At last from the clouds of the table aboveN
She sighs and dreams and thrills and glowsO
Transfigured with loveN
-
She nestles over the shining rimP
Buries her chin in the creamy seaQ
Her tail hangs loose each drowsy pawR
Is doubled under each bending kneeQ
-
A long dim ecstasy holds her lifeS
Her world is an infinite shapeless whiteT
Till her tongue has curled the last holy dropU
Then she sinks back into the nightT
-
Draws and dips her body to heapV
Her sleepy nerves in the great arm chairB
Lies defeated and buried deepV
Three or four hours unconscious thereB
