The Dying Child Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG DHDH AIAI ADAD

Mother I'm tired and I would fain be sleepingA
Let me repose upon thy bosom sickB
But promise me that thou wilt leave off weepingA
Because thy tears fall hot upon my cheekC
-
Here it is cold the tempest raveth madlyD
But in my dreams all is so wondrous brightE
I see the angel children smiling gladlyD
When from my weary eyes I shut out lightE
-
Mother one stands beside me now and listenF
Dost thou not hear the music's sweet accordG
See how his white wings beautifully glistenF
Surely those wings were given him by the LordG
-
Green gold and red are floating all around meD
They are the flowers the angel scatterethH
Should I have also wings while life has bound meD
Or mother are they given alone in deathH
-
Why dost thou clasp me as if I were goingA
Why dost thou press thy cheek so unto mineI
Thy cheek is hot and yet thy tears are flowingA
I will dear mother will be always thineI
-
Do not sigh thus it marreth my reposingA
But if thou weep then I must weep with theeD
Ah I am tired my weary eyes are closingA
Look mother look the angel kisseth meD
