From The Philosopher-s Stone Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BC D EF G HH I JJ K CC L MH I NN O PP Q

Now she heard the following words sadly sungA
-
Life is a shadow that flits awayB
In a night of darkness and woeC
-
But then would follow brighter thoughtsD
-
Life has the rose s sweet perfumeE
With sunshine light and joyF
-
And if one stanza sounded painfullyG
-
Each mortal thinks of himself aloneH
Is a truth alas too clearly knownH
-
Then on the other hand came the answerI
-
Love like a mighty flowing streamJ
Fills every heart with its radiant gleamJ
-
She heard indeed such words as theseK
-
In the pretty turmoil here belowC
All is a vain and paltry showC
-
Then came also words of comfortL
-
Great and good are the actions doneM
By many whose worth is never knownH
-
And if sometimes the mocking strain reached herI
-
Why not join in the jesting cryN
That contemns all gifts from the throne on highN
-
In the blind girl s heart a stronger voice repeatedO
-
To trust in thyself and God is bestP
In His holy will forever to restP
-
But the evil spirit could not see this and remain contentedQ
