Tell me a Sunday storyA
A dear child said to meA
And I bent down and kissed herB
And placed her on my kneeA
-
Once long ago in countriesC
Far very far awayD
Where the cold snow storm never comesE
And all is bright and gayD
-
There lived a king so cruelF
He gave this stern commandG
That all the little childrenH
Must die throughout the landG
-
But still there was one motherB
Who kept her baby dearI
And quickly hushed its cryingJ
In silence and in fearI
-
But when she could no longerB
Her precious baby hideK
She did not like to throw himL
Upon the rushing tideK
-
And so a little basketM
She made of rushes stoutN
And plastered it with clay and pitchO
To keep the water outN
-
Then in this basket cradleF
She put the little childP
And quietly he floated downQ
Among the rushes wildP
-
Just then the king's own daughterB
Came to the water's edgeR
And saw the basket floatingJ
Among the grass and sedgeR
-
She drew it from the waterB
And called the babe her ownS
And kept him till to be a manT
That little boy had grownS
-
And when you read the BibleF
Which you will learn to doU
You'll see how great and good he wasV
And how God loved him tooU
