The Meddlesome Child Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKBK LBMB NONO

Little Lucy was left in the room once aloneA
Where the table was set out for teaB
She looked all around and she thought to herselfC
That no one was there who could seeB
-
Then she climbed on a chair and took off the topD
Of the sugar bowl shining and brightE
And there were the lumps of the sugar she lovedF
All looking so nice and so whiteE
-
Then she said to herself Mamma never will knowG
If I take away only just oneH
So she took it and ate it it tasted so goodI
She thought But one more and I've doneH
-
But while she was reaching her hand out for moreJ
The chair slipped away from her feetK
And poor little Lucy soon wished much that sheB
Had not taken the sugar so sweetK
-
For her head struck the floor and made such a noiseL
That every one hastened to seeB
And all of them knew by the sugar she heldM
How naughty Miss Lucy could beB
-
And no one was sorry although her poor headN
Ached sadly because of her fallO
For little girls never so every one saidN
Should taste or should meddle at allO
