Where are the angels motherA
Though you have often saidB
They watched at night around meC
And safely kept my bedB
-
Though every night I listenD
Their voices low to hearE
Yet I have never heard themF
Where are they mother dearG
-
And when the silver moonshineH
Fills all my room with lightI
And when the stars are shiningJ
So countless and so brightI
-
I hope to see them comingJ
With their fair forms to meC
Yet I have never seen themF
Mother where can they beC
-
I saw a cloud this eveningJ
Red with the setting sunD
It was so very lovelyC
I thought it might be oneD
-
But when it faded slowlyC
I knew it could not beC
For they are always shiningJ
Why come they not to meC
-
My child when through your windowK
Shines down the moonlight clearG
When all is still and silentL
And no kind friend is nearG
-
Are you not glad and happyC
And full of thoughts of loveM
Do you not think of heavenD
That brighter land aboveM
-
These thoughts the angels bring youN
And though the gentle toneO
Of their sweet voices comes notP
When you are all aloneO
-
Yet they are always leavingJ
For earth their homes on highQ
And though you cannot see themF
You feel that they are nighQ
