Samuel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PMQM RASA

In Bible times so long agoA
And in a far off city tooB
A mother watched her only childC
As he in strength and beauty grewB
-
And when his little tottering feetD
Had scarcely learned to go aloneE
Before his baby voice could speakF
Her name with a sweet joyous toneE
-
She took her boy and travelled onG
Away from home for many a mileH
That with a good and holy manI
Her darling son might live a whileH
-
That he might learn about the GodJ
Who made the earth and sea and skyK
And then she left him there and turnedL
Back to her home with many a sighK
-
She could not place him on her kneeM
And tell him he was very dearN
And so she made a little coatO
And brought it to him every yearN
-
But you my little girl can learnP
While you are sitting close by meM
Of heaven and that kind God aboveQ
Who made in love each thing we seeM
-
And you should thank Him every dayR
That you can here His goodness knowA
And from your pleasant happy homeS
And your dear parents need not goA
