The Pampered Lapdog And The Misguided Ass Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKLKMM NONOPP QLQJRR COCOST

A woolly little terrier pupA
Gave vent to yelps distressingB
Whereat his mistress took him upA
And soothed him with caressingB
And yet he was not in the leastC
What one would call a handsome beastC
-
He might have been a JavaneseD
He might have been a Jap dogE
And also neither one of theseD
But just a common lapdogE
The kind that people send you knowF
Done up in cotton to the ShowF
-
At all events whate'er his raceG
The pretty girl who owned himH
Caressed his unattractive faceG
And petted and cologned himH
While watching her with mournful eyeI
A patient ass stood silent byI
-
If thus he mused the feminineJ
And fascinating genderK
Is led to love I too can winL
Her protestations tenderK
And then the poor misguided chapM
Sat down upon the lady's lapM
-
Then as her head with terror swamN
This method seems to suit youO
Observed the ass so here I amN
Said she Get up you brute youO
And promptly screamed aloud for aidP
No ass was ever more dismayedP
-
They took the ass into the yardQ
And there with whip and truncheonL
They beat him and they beat him hardQ
From breakfast time till luncheonJ
He only gave a tearful gulpR
Though almost pounded to a pulpR
-
THE MORAL is or seems at leastC
To be In etiquette youO
Will find that while enough's a feastC
A surplus will upset youO
Toujours toujours la politesse ifS
The quantity be not excessiveT
