The Impecunious Cricket And The Frugal Ant Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHBHB IJKJLMLN OPOPBQBQ RRAA

There was an ant a spinster antA
Whose virtues were so manyB
That she became intolerantC
Of those who hadn't anyB
She had a small and frugal mindD
And lived a life asceticE
Nor was her temperament the kindD
That's known as sympatheticE
-
I skip details Suffice to sayF
That knocking at her wicketG
There chanced to come one autumn dayF
A common garden cricketG
So ragged poor and needy thatH
Without elucidationB
One saw the symptoms of a batH
Of several months' durationB
-
He paused beside her door step andI
With one pathetic gestureJ
He called attention with his handK
To both his shoes and vestureJ
I joined said he an opera troupeL
They suddenly disbandedM
And left me on the hostel stoopL
Lugubriously strandedN
-
I therefore lay aside my prideO
And frankly ask for clothingP
Begone the frugal ant repliedO
I look on you with loathingP
Your muddy shoes have spoiled the lawnB
Your hands have soiled the fence tooQ
If you need money go and pawnB
Your watch if you have sense toQ
-
THE MORAL is Albeit lotsR
Of people follow Dr WattsR
The sluggard when his means are scantA
Should seek an uncle not an antA
