The Confiding Peasant And The Maladroit Bear Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGIJJ KLKLBB MNMNOO PQPQRR SFSFBB TT

A peasant had a docile bearA
A bear of manners pleasantB
And all the love she had to spareA
She lavished on the peasantB
She proved her deep affection plainlyC
The method was a bit ungainlyC
-
The peasant had to dig and delveD
And as his class are apt toE
When all the whistles blew at twelveD
He ate his lunch and napped tooE
The bear a careful outlook keepingF
The while her master lay a sleepingF
-
As thus the peasant slept one dayG
The weather being torridH
A gnat beheld him where he layG
And lit upon his foreheadI
And thence like all such winged creaturesJ
Proceeded over all his featuresJ
-
The watchful bear perceiving thatK
The gnat lit on her masterL
Resolved to light upon the gnatK
And plunge him in disasterL
She saw no sense in being lenientB
When stones lay round her most convenientB
-
And so a weighty rock she aimedM
With much enthusiasmN
Oh lor' the startled gnat exclaimedM
And promptly had a spasmN
A natural proceeding this wasO
Considering how close the miss wasO
-
Now by his dumb companion's pluckP
Which caused the gnat to squall soQ
The sleeping man was greatly struckP
And by the bowlder alsoQ
In fact his friends who idolized himR
Remarked they hardly recognized himR
-
Of course the bear was greatly grievedS
But being just a dumb thingF
She only thought I was deceivedS
But still I did hit somethingF
Which showed this masculine achievementB
Had somewhat soothed her deep bereavementB
-
THE MORAL If you prize your bonesT
Beware of females throwing stonesT
