Love Is A Terrible Thing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BB CB DD CC EE FFF GG HH

I went out to the farthest meadowA
I lay down in the deepest shadowA
-
And I said unto the earth Hold meB
And unto the night O enfold meB
-
And unto the wind petulantlyC
I cried You know not for you are freeB
-
And I begged the little leaves to leanD
Low and together for a safe screenD
-
Then to the stars I told my taleC
That is my home light there in the valeC
-
And O I know that I shall returnE
But let me lie first mid the unfeeling fernE
-
For there is a flame that has blown too nearF
And there is a name that has grown too dearF
And there is a fearF
-
And to the still hills and cool earth and far sky I made moanG
The heart in my bosom is not my ownG
-
O would I were free as the wind on wingH
Love is a terrible thingH
