The World's Lover Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFG GDGD HGHG D DI DDD

My eyes are full of lonely mirthA
Reeling with want and worn with scarsB
For pride of every stone on earthA
I shake my spear at all the starsB
-
A live bat beats my crest aboveC
Lean foxes nose where I have trodD
And on my naked face the loveC
Which is the loneliness of GodD
-
Outlawed since that great day gone byE
When before prince and pope and queenF
I stood and spoke a blasphemyG
'Behold the summer leaves are green '-
-
They cursed me what was that to meG
Who in that summer darkness furledD
With but an owl and snail to seeG
Had blessed and conquered all the worldD
-
They bound me to the scourging stakeH
They laid their whips of thorn on meG
I wept to see the green rods breakH
Though blood be beautiful to seeG
-
Beneath the gallows' foot abhorredD
The crowds cry 'Crucify ' and 'Kill '-
Higher the priests sing 'Praise the LordD
The warlock dies' and higher stillI
-
Shall heaven and earth hear one cry sentD
Even from the hideous gibbet heightD
'Praise to the Lord OmnipotentD
The vultures have a feast to night '-
