The Lamp Post Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIFI JKLK HMIM HNON FPIP QRPR

Laugh your best O blazoned forestsA
Me ye shall not shift or shameB
With your beauty here among youC
Man hath set his spear of flameB
-
Lamp to lamp we send the signalD
For our lord goes forth to warE
Since a voice ere stars were buildedF
Bade him colonise a starG
-
Laugh ye cruel as the morningH
Deck your heads with fruit and flowerI
Though our souls be sick with pityF
Yet our hands are hard with powerI
-
We have read your evil storiesJ
We have heard the tiny yellK
Through the voiceless conflagrationL
Of your green and shining hellK
-
And when men with fires and shoutingH
Break your old tyrannic palesM
And where ruled a single spiderI
Laugh and weep a million talesM
-
This shall be your best of boastingH
That some poet poor of spineN
Full and sated with our wisdomO
Full and fiery with our wineN
-
Shall steal out and make a treatyF
With the grasses and the showersP
Rail against the grey town motherI
Fawn upon the scornful flowersP
-
Rest his head among the rosesQ
Where a quiet song bird soundsR
And no sword made sharp for traitorsP
Hack him into meat for houndsR
