Envoy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK JMNM HOPQ KRMR KSTS UVMV

Clear was the night the moon was youngA
The larkspurs in the plotsB
Mingled their orange with the goldC
Of the forget me notsB
-
The poppies seemed a silver mistD
So darkly fell the gloomE
You scarce had guessed yon crimson streaksF
Were buttercups in bloomE
-
But one thing moved a little childG
Crashed through the flower and fernH
And all my soul rose up to greetI
The sage of whom I learnH
-
I looked into his awful eyesJ
I waited his decreeK
I made ingenious attemptsL
To sit upon his kneeK
-
The babe upraised his wondering eyesJ
And timidly he saidM
A trend towards experimentN
In modern minds is bredM
-
I feel the will to roam to learnH
By test experience nousO
That fire is hot and ocean deepP
And wolves carnivorousQ
-
My brain demands complexityK
The lisping cherub criedR
I looked at him and only saidM
Go on The world is wideR
-
A tear rolled down his pinaforeK
Yet from my life must passS
The simple love of sun and moonT
The old games in the grassS
-
Now that my back is to my homeU
Could these again be foundV
I looked on him and only saidM
Go on The world is roundV
