By The Babe Unborn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DCEC DFGF HIJI KLML NOPO

If trees were tall and grasses shortA
As in some crazy taleB
If here and there a sea were blueC
Beyond the breaking paleB
-
If a fixed fire hung in the airD
To warm me one day throughC
If deep green hair grew on great hillsE
I know what I should doC
-
In dark I lie dreaming that thereD
Are great eyes cold or kindF
And twisted streets and silent doorsG
And living men behindF
-
Let storm clouds come better an hourH
And leave to weep and fightI
Than all the ages I have ruledJ
The empires of the nightI
-
I think that if they gave me leaveK
Within the world to standL
I would be good through all the dayM
I spent in fairylandL
-
They should not hear a word from meN
Of selfishness or scornO
If only I could find the doorP
If only I were bornO
