They spoke of Progress spiring roundA
Of Light and Mrs Humphry WardB
It is not true to say I frownedA
Or ran about the room and roaredB
I might have simply sat and snoredB
I rose politely in the clubC
And said I feel a little boredB
Will someone take me to a pubC
-
The new world's wisest did surroundB
Me and it pains me to recordB
I did not think their views profoundB
Or their conclusions well assuredB
The simple life I can't affordB
Besides I do not like the grubC
I want a mash and sausage scoredB
Will someone take me to a pubC
-
I know where Men can still be foundB
Anger and clamorous accordB
And virtues growing from the groundB
And fellowship of beer and boardB
And song that is a sturdy cordB
And hope that is a hardy shrubC
And goodness that is God's last wordB
Will someone take me to a pubC
-
ENVOID
-
Prince Bayard would have smashed his swordB
To see the sort of knights you dubC
Is that the last of them O LordB
Will someone take me to a pubC
