A Portrait Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHHH IIJI AKLM

Fair faces crowd on Christmas nightA
Like seven suns a rowB
But all beyond is the wolfish windC
And the crafty feet of the snowB
-
But through the rout one figure goesD
With quick and quiet treadE
Her robe is plain her form is frailF
Wait if she turn her headE
-
I say no word of line or hueG
But if that face you seeH
Your soul shall know the smile of faith'sH
Awful frivolityH
-
Know that in this grotesque old masqueI
Too loud we cannot singI
Or dance too wild or speak too wideJ
To praise a hidden thingI
-
That though the jest be old as nightA
Still shaketh sun and sphereK
An everlasting laughterL
Too loud for us to hearM
