The turquoise pool rose up to meet usA
its slide a silver afterthought down whichB
we plunged screaming into a mirage of bubblesC
We did not exist beyond the gaze of a boyD
-
Shaking water off our limbs we liftedE
up from ladder rungs across the fern coolF
lip of rim Afternoon Oiled and satedG
we sunbathed rose and paraded the concreteH
-
danced to the low beat of quot Duke of Earl quotH
Past cherry colas hot dogs DreamsiclesC
we came to the counter where bees staggeredH
into root beer cups and drowned We gobbledH
-
cotton candy torches sweet as furtive kissesC
shared on benches beneath summer shadowsC
Cherry Elm Sycamore We spread our chenilleF
blankets across grass pressed radios to our earsC
-
mouthing the old words then loosenedH
thin bikini straps and rubbed baby oil with iodineI
across sunburned shoulders tossing a glanceC
through the chain link at an improbable worldH
