Three Counsellors Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDE FBFB GHG IJI

It was the fairy of the placeA
Moving within a little lightB
Who touched with dim and shadowy graceA
The conflict at its fever heightB
-
It seemed to whisper 'Quietness '-
Then quietly itself was goneC
Yet echoes of its mute caressD
Were with me as the years went onE
-
It was the warrior withinF
Who called 'Awake prepare for fightB
Yet lose not memory in the dinF
Make of thy gentleness thy mightB
-
'Make of thy silence words to shakeG
The long enthroned kings of earthH
Make of thy will the force to breakG
Their towers of wantonness and mirth '-
-
It was the wise all seeing soulI
Who counselled neither war nor peaceJ
'Only be thou thyself that goalI
In which the wars of time shall cease '-
