We are desert leagues apartA
Time is misty ages nowB
Since the warmth of heart to heartA
Chased the shadows from my browB
-
Oh I am so old meseemsC
I am next of kin to TimeD
The historian of her dreamsC
From the long forgotten primeD
-
You have come a path of flowersC
What a way was mine to roamE
Many a fallen empire's towersC
Many a ruined heart my homeE
-
No there is no comfort noneF
All the dewy tender breathG
Idly falls when life is doneF
On the starless brow of deathG
-
Though the dream of love may tireH
In the ages long agoneF
There were ruby hearts of fireH
Ah the daughters of the dawnF
-
Though I am so feeble nowF
I remember when our prideI
Could not to the Mighty bowF
We would sweep His stars asideI
-
Mix thy youth with thoughts like thoseC
It were but to wither theeJ
But to graft the youthful roseC
On the old and flowerless treeJ
-
Age is no more near than youthK
To the sceptre and the crownF
Vain the wisdom vain the truthK
Do not lay thy rapture downF
