H. P. B. (in Memoriam.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH GIGI JKJK LMNM OPOP Q

Though swift the days flow from her dayA
No one has left her day unnamedB
We know what light broke from her rayA
On us who in the truth proclaimedB
-
Grew brother with the stars and powersC
That stretch away away to lightD
And fade within the primal hoursC
And in the wondrous First uniteD
-
We lose with her the right to scornE
The voices scornful of her truthF
With her a deeper love was bornE
For those who filled her days with ruthF
-
To her they were not sordid thingsG
In them sometimes her wisdom saidH
The Bird of Paradise had wingsG
It only dreams it is not deadH
-
We cannot for forgetfulnessG
Forego the reverence due to themI
Who wear at times they do not guessG
The sceptre and the diademI
-
With wisdom of the olden timeJ
She made the hearts of dust to flameK
And fired us with the hope sublimeJ
Our ancient heritage to claimK
-
That turning from the visibleL
By vastness unappalled nor stayedM
Our wills might rule beside that WillN
By which the tribal stars are swayedM
-
And entering the heroic strifeO
Tread in the way their feet have trodP
Who move within a vaster lifeO
Sparks in the Fire Gods amid GodP
-
