Forgiveness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF AGAG HIJI

At dusk the window panes grew greyA
The wet world vanished in the gloomB
The dim and silver end of dayA
Scarce glimmered through the little roomB
-
And all my sins were told I saidC
Such things to her who knew not sinD
The sharp ache throbbing in my headC
The fever running high withinD
-
I touched with pain her purityE
Sin's darker sense I could not bringF
My soul was black as night to meE
To her I was a wounded thingF
-
I needed love no words could sayA
She drew me softly nigh her chairG
My head upon her knees to layA
With cool hands that caressed my hairG
-
She sat with hands as if to blessH
And looked with grave ethereal eyesI
Ensouled by ancient quietnessJ
A gentle priestess of the WiseI
