Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEBD FFDD GDHI EEDJ KFEE

My love he built me a bonny bowerA
And clad it a' wi' a lilye flowerA
A brawer bower ye ne'er did seeB
Than my true love he built for meB
-
There came a man by middle dayC
He spied his sport and went awayC
And brought the king that very nightD
Who brake my bower and slew my knightD
-
He slew my knight to me so dearE
He slew my knight and poined his gearE
My servants all for life did fleeB
And left me in extremitieD
-
I sewed his sheet making my maneF
I watched the corpse myself alaneF
I watched his body night and dayD
No living creature came that wayD
-
I took his body on my backG
And whiles I gaed and whiles I satD
I digged a grave and laid him inH
And happed him with the sod so greenI
-
But think na ye my heart was sairE
When I laid the moul' on his yellow hairE
Think na ye my heart was waeD
When I turned about away to gaeJ
-
Nae living man I'll love againK
Since that my lovely knight is slainF
W ae lock of his yellow hairE
I'll chain my heart for evermairE
