The Poet's Testament Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IIJJ

I give back to the earth what the earth gaveA
All to the furrow none to the graveA
The candle's out the spirit's vigil spentB
Sight may not follow where the vision wentB
-
I leave you but the sound of many a wordC
In mocking echoes haply overheardC
I sang to heaven My exile made me freeD
from world to world from all worlds carried meD
-
Spared by the furies for the Fates were kindE
I paced the pillared cloisters of the mindE
All times my present everywhere my placeF
Nor fear nor hope nor envy saw my faceF
-
Blow what winds would the ancient truth was mineG
And friendship mellowed in the flush of wineG
And heavenly laughter shaking from its wingsH
Atoms of light and tears for mortal thingsH
-
To trembling harmonies of field and cloudI
Of flesh and spirit was my worship vowedI
Let form let music let all quickening airJ
Fulfil in beauty my imperfect prayerJ
