Slow And Reluctant Was The Long Descent Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBCDDEDDE

Slow and reluctant was the long descentA
With many farewell pious looks behindB
And dumb misgivings where the path might windB
And questionings of nature as I wentA
The greener branches that above me bentA
The broadening valleys quieted by mindB
To the fair reasons of the Spring inclinedB
And to the Summer's tender argumentC
But sometimes as revolving night descendedD
And in my childish heart the new song endedD
I lay down full of longing on the steepE
And haunting still the lonely way I wendedD
Into my dreams the ancient sorrow blendedD
And with these holy echoes charmed my sleepE
