The Slave's Complaint Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABCCCBDEEB FFFB GGGB AAAB HHHB

Am I sadly cast asideA
On misfortune's rugged tideA
Will the world my pains derideA
ForeverB
Must I dwell in Slavery's nightC
And all pleasure take its flightC
Far beyond my feeble sightC
ForeverB
Worst of all must Hope grow dimD
And withhold her cheering beamE
Rather let me sleep and dreamE
ForeverB
-
Something still my heart surveysF
Groping through this dreary mazeF
Is it Hope then burn and blazeF
ForeverB
-
Leave me not a wretch confinedG
Altogether lame and blindG
Unto gross despair consignedG
ForeverB
-
Heaven in whom can I confideA
Canst thou not for all provideA
Condescend to be my guideA
ForeverB
-
And when this transient life shall endH
Oh may some kind eternal friendH
Bid me from servitude ascendH
ForeverB
