The Powers Of Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACD EBEED FBFFD GDGGD HIHHD JDJJD KBKKD

It lifts the poor man from his cellA
To fortune's bright alcoveB
Its mighty sway few few can tellA
Mid envious foes it conquers illC
There's nothing half like loveD
-
Ye weary strangers void of restE
Who late through life have stroveB
Like the late bird which seeks its nestE
If you would hence in truth be blestE
Light on the bough of loveD
-
The vagrant plebeian void of friendsF
Constrain'd through wilds to roveB
On this his safety whole dependsF
One faithful smile his trouble endsF
A smile of constant loveD
-
Thus did a captured wretch complainG
Imploring heaven aboveD
Till one with sympathetic painG
Flew to his arms and broke the chainG
And grief took flight from loveD
-
Let clouds of danger rise and roarH
And hope's firm pillars moveI
With storms behind and death beforeH
O grant me this I crave no moreH
There's nothing half like loveD
-
When nature wakes soft pity's cooJ
The hawk deserts the doveD
Compassion melts the creature throughJ
With palpitations felt by fewJ
The wrecking throbs of loveD
-
Let surly discord take its flightK
From wedlock's peaceful groveB
While union breaks the arm of fightK
With darkness swallow'd up in lightK
O what is there like loveD
