E'en John the Baptist did not knowA
Who Christ the Lord could beB
And bade his own disciples goA
The strange event to seeB
-
-
They said Art thou the one of whomC
'Twas written long beforeD
Is there another still to comeE
Who will all things restoreD
-
-
This is enough without a nameF
Go tell him what is doneG
Behold the feeble weak and lameF
With strength rise up and runG
-
-
This is enough the blind now seeB
The dumb Hosannas singH
Devils far from his presence fleeB
As shades from morning's wingH
-
-
See the distress'd all bath'd in tearsI
Prostrate before him fallJ
Immanuel speaks and Lazarus hearsK
The dead obeys his callJ
-
-
This is enough the fig tree diesL
And withers at his frownM
Nature her God must recognizeL
And drop her flowery crownM
-
-
At his command the fish increaseN
And loaves of barley swellO
Ye hungry eat and hold your peaceN
And find a remnant stillP
-
-
At his command the water blushedQ
And all was turned to wineR
And in redundance flowed afreshS
And owned its God divineR
-
-
Behold the storms at his rebukeT
All calm upon the seaB
How can we for another lookU
When none can work as heB
-
-
This is enough it must be GodV
From whom the plagues are drivenG
At whose command the mountains nodV
And all the Host of HeavenG
