On The Death Of An Infant Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGF HIHI

Blest Babe it at length has withdrawnA
The Seraphs have rock'd it to sleepB
Away with an angelic smile it has goneA
And left a sad parent to weepB
-
-
It soars from the ocean of painC
On breezes of precious perfumeD
O be not discouraged when death is but gainC
The triumph of life from the tombD
-
-
With pleasure I thought it my ownE
And smil'd on its infantile charmsF
But some mystic bird like an eagle came downG
And snatch'd it away from my armsF
-
-
Blest Babe it ascends into HeavenH
It mounts with delight at the callI
And flies to the bosom from whence it was givenH
The Parent and Patron of allI
