Hail thou auspicious vernal dawnA
Ye birds proclaim the winter's goneA
Ye warbling minstrels singB
Pour forth your tribute as ye riseC
And thus salute the fragrant skiesC
The pleasing smiles of SpringB
-
-
Coo sweetly oh thou harmless DoveD
And bid thy mate no longer roveE
In cold hybernal valesF
Let music rise from every tongueG
Whilst winter flies before the songH
Which floats on gentle galesF
-
-
Ye frozen streams dissolve and flowI
Along the valley sweet and slowI
Divested fields be gayJ
Ye drooping forests bloom on highK
And raise your branches to the skyK
And thus your charms displayJ
-
-
Thou world of heat thou vital sourceL
The torpid insects feel thy forceL
Which all with life suppliesC
Gardens and orchards richly bloomM
And send a gale of sweet perfumeM
To invite them as they riseC
-
-
Near where the crystal waters glideN
The male of birds escorts his brideN
And twitters on the sprayJ
He mounts upon his active wingB
To hail the bounty of the SpringB
The lavish pomp of MayJ
-
-
Inspiring month of youthful LoveD
How oft we in the peaceful groveE
Survey the flowery plumeM
Or sit beneath the sylvan shadeO
Where branches wave above the headP
And smile on every bloomM
-
-
Exalted month when thou art goneA
May Virtue then begin the dawnA
Of an eternal SpringB
May raptures kindle on my tongueG
And start a new eternal songH
Which ne'er shall cease to ringB
