Salute the august train a scene so grandA
With every tuneful bandA
The mighty braveB
His country bound to saveB
Extends his aiding handA
For joy his vot'ries hoop and stampC
Excited by the blaze of pompD
Let ev'ry eyeE
The scene descryF
The sons of freedom's landA
-
They look ten thousand stars lamp tumbler blazeG
To give the Hero praiseG
Immortal ClayH
The cause is to pourtrayF
Your tuneful voices raiseG
The lights of our Columbian sunI
Break from his patriotic throneJ
Let all admireF
The faithful sireF
The chief musician playsG
-
Ye bustling crowds give way proclaims the drumK
And give the Patriot roomL
The cannon's soundM
The blast of trumpets boundM
Be this our father's homeN
Now let the best musician playH
A skillful tune for Henry ClayH
Let every earF
With transport hearF
The President is comeK
-
Let sister states greet the Columbian feastO
With each admiring guestP
Thou art our choiceQ
Let ev'ry joyful voiceQ
Sound from the east to westP
Let haughty Albion's lion roarF
The eagle must prevail to soarF
And in lovely formR
Above the stormR
Erect her peaceful nestP
-
Beyond each proud empire she throws her eyeE
Which lifted to the skyE
No thunders rollS
To agitate her soulS
Beneath her feet they flyE
Let skillful fingers sweep the lyreF
Strike ev'ry ear set hearts on fireF
Let monarchs sleepT
Beyond the deepT
And howling faction dieE
-
Nor hence forget the scene applauding dayH
When every heart was gayH
The universal swellU
Rush'd from the loud town bellU
In awful grand arrayH
We see them form the bright paradeV
And hark a gladdening march is play'dV
Along the streetW
The theme is sweetW
For every voice is ClayH
-
To the Capitol the low and upland peersX
Resort with princely fearsX
And homage payH
A loud huzza for ClayH
Falls on our earsX
Loud from his lips the thunders rollS
And fill with wonder every soulS
Round the sire of stateY
All concentrateY
And every mortal hearsZ
