George Moses Horton, Myself Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIK

I feel myself in needA
Of the inspiring strains of ancient loreB
My heart to lift my empty mind to feedA
And all the world exploreB
-
I know that I am oldC
And never can recover what is pastD
But for the future may some light unfoldC
And soar from ages blastD
-
I feel resolved to tryE
My wish to prove my calling to pursueF
Or mount up from the earth into the skyE
To show what Heaven can doF
-
My genius from a boyG
Has fluttered like a bird within my heartH
But could not thus confined her powers employG
Impatient to departH
-
She like a restless birdI
Would spread her wings her power to be unfurl dJ
And let her songs be loudly heardI
And dart from world to worldK
