Brave Grant thou hero of the warA
Thou art the emblem of the morning starB
Transpiring from the East to banish fearC
Revolving o'er a servile HemisphereC
At large thou hast sustained the chief commandD
And at whose order all must rise and standD
To hold position in the field is thineE
To sink in darkness or to rise and shineE
-
Thou art the leader of the Fed'ral bandD
To send them at thy pleasure through the landD
Whose martial soldiers never did recoilF
Nor fail in any place to take the spoilF
Thus organized was all the army firmG
And led unwavering to their lawful termG
Never repulsed or made to shrink with fearC
Advancing in their cause so truly dearC
-
The love of Union burned in every heartH
Which led them true and faithful from the startH
Whether upon water or on landD
They all obeyed their marshall's strict commandD
By him the regiments were all surveyedI
His trumpet voice was by the whole obeyedI
His order right was every line to formJ
And all be well prepared to front the stormJ
-
Ye Southern gentlemen must grant him praiseK
Nor on the flag of Union fail to gazeK
Ye ladies of the South forego the prizeL
Our chief commander here to recognizeL
From him the stream of general orders flowM
And every chief on him some praise bestowM
The well known victor of the mighty causeN
Demands from every voice a loud applauseO
-
What more has great Napoleon ever doneP
Though many battles in his course he wonP
What more has Alexander e'er achievedQ
Who left depopulated cities grievedQ
To him we dedicate the whole in songR
The verses from our pen to him belongR
To him the Union banners are unfurledS
The star of peace the standard of the worldS
