Hark from the mighty Hero's tombA
I hear a voice proclaimB
A sound which fills the world with gloomA
But magnifies his nameB
-
His flight from time let braves deploreC
And wail from state to stateD
And sound abroad from shore to shoreC
The death of one so greatD
-
He scorn'd to live a captured slaveE
And fought his passage throughF
He dies the prince of all the braveE
And bids the world adieuF
-
Sing to the mem'ry of his powerG
Ye vagrant mountaineersH
Ye rustic peasants drop a showerG
Of love for him in tearsI
-
He wields the glittering sword no moreC
With that transpiercing eyeJ
Ceases to roam the mountain o'erG
And gets him down to dieJ
-
Still let the nation spread his fameB
While marching from his tombA
Aloud let all the world proclaimB
Jackson forever bloomA
-
No longer to the world confin'dK
He goes down like a starL
He sets and leaves his friends behindK
To rein the steed of warC
-
Hark from the mighty Hero's tombA
I hear a voice proclaimB
A sound which fills the world with gloomA
But magnifies his nameB
