I wish to tune my quivering lyreC
To deeds of fame and notes of fireD
To echo from its rising swellA
How heroes fought and nations fellA
When Atreus' sons advanc'd to warE
Or Tyrian Cadmus rov'd afarF
But still to martial strains unknownG
My lyre recurs to Love aloneG
Fir'd with the hope of future fameH
I seek some nobler Hero's nameH
The dying chords are strung anewI
To war to war my harp is dueI
With glowing strings the Epic strainJ
To Jove's great son I raise againK
Alcides and his glorious deedsL
Beneath whose arm the Hydra bleedsL
All all in vain my wayward lyreC
Wakes silver notes of soft DesireD
Adieu ye Chiefs renown'd in armsM
Adieu the clang of War's alarmsM
To other deeds my soul is strungN
And sweeter notes shall now be sungN
My harp shall all its powers revealO
To tell the tale my heart must feelO
Love Love alone my lyre shall claimH
In songs of bliss and sighs of flameH
