To The Author Of A Sonnet, Beginning, ' Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JThy verse is 'sad' enough no doubt | A |
A devilish deal more sad than witty | B |
Why we should weep I can't find out | A |
Unless for thee we weep in pity | B |
- | |
Yet there is one I pity more | C |
And much alas I think he needs it | D |
For he I'm sure will suffer sore | C |
Who to his own misfortune reads it | D |
- | |
Thy rhymes without the aid of magic | E |
May once be read but never after | F |
Yet their effect's by no means tragic | E |
Although by far too dull for laughter | F |
- | |
But would you make our bosoms bleed | G |
And of no common pang complain | H |
If you would make us weep indeed | G |
Tell us you'll read them o'er again | I |
- | |
March | J |
