To Mary, On Receiving Her Picture Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFH IJIJ KLKL MNON MAMA

This faint resemblance of thy charmsA
Though strong as mortal art could giveB
My constant heart of fear disarmsA
Revives my hopes and bids me liveC
-
Here I can trace the locks of goldD
Which round thy snowy forehead waveE
The cheeks which sprung from Beauty's mouldD
The lips which made me Beauty's slaveE
-
Here I can trace ah no that eyeF
Whose azure floats in liquid fireG
Must all the painter's art defyF
And bid him from the task retireH
-
Here I behold its beauteous hueI
But where's the beam so sweetly strayingJ
Which gave a lustre to its blueI
Like Luna o'er the ocean playingJ
-
Sweet copy far more dear to meK
Lifeless unfeeling as thou artL
Than all the living forms could beK
Save her who plac'd thee next my heartL
-
She plac'd it sad with needless fearM
Lest time might shake my wavering soulN
Unconscious that her image thereO
Held every sense in fast controlN
-
Thro' hours thro' years thro' time 'twill cheerM
My hope in gloomy moments raiseA
In life's last conflict 'twill appearM
And meet my fond expiring gazeA
