To M. S. G. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI AJAJ KLKL CACA MIMI GNGN JMJM

Whene'er I view those lips of thineA
Their hue invites my fervent kissB
Yet I forego that bliss divineA
Alas it were unhallow'd blissB
-
Whene'er I dream of that pure breastC
How could I dwell upon its snowsD
Yet is the daring wish represtC
For that would banish its reposeD
-
A glance from thy soul searching eyeE
Can raise with hope depress with fearF
Yet I conceal my love and whyE
I would not force a painful tearG
-
I ne'er have told my love yet thouH
Hast seen my ardent flame too wellI
And shall I plead my passion nowH
To make thy bosom's heaven a hellI
-
No for thou never canst be mineA
United by the priest's decreeJ
By any ties but those divineA
Mine my belov'd thou ne'er shalt beJ
-
Then let the secret fire consumeK
Let it consume thou shalt not knowL
With joy I court a certain doomK
Rather than spread its guilty glowL
-
I will not ease my tortur'd heartC
By driving dove ey'd peace from thineA
Rather than such a sting impartC
Each thought presumptuous I resignA
-
Yes yield those lips for which I'd braveM
More than I here shall dare to tellI
Thy innocence and mine to saveM
I bid thee now a last farewellI
-
Yes yield that breast to seek despairG
And hope no more thy soft embraceN
Which to obtain my soul would dareG
All all reproach but thy disgraceN
-
At least from guilt shalt thou be freeJ
No matron shall thy shame reproveM
Though cureless pangs may prey on meJ
No martyr shalt thou be to loveM
