To M Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ CKCK LMLM

Oh did those eyes instead of fireA
With bright but mild affection shineB
Though they might kindle less desireA
Love more than mortal would be thineB
-
For thou art form'd so heavenly fairC
Howe'er those orbs may wildly beamD
We must admire but still despairC
That fatal glance forbids esteemD
-
When Nature stamp'd thy beauteous birthE
So much perfection in thee shoneF
She fear'd that too divine for earthE
The skies might claim thee for their ownF
-
Therefore to guard her dearest workG
Lest angels might dispute the prizeH
She bade a secret lightning lurkG
Within those once celestial eyesH
-
These might the boldest Sylph appallI
When gleaming with meridian blazeJ
Thy beauty must enrapture allI
But who can dare thine ardent gazeJ
-
'Tis said that Berenice's hairC
In stars adorns the vault of heavenK
But they would ne'er permit thee thereC
Who wouldst so far outshine the sevenK
-
For did those eyes as planets rollL
Thy sister lights would scarce appearM
E'en suns which systems now controlL
Would twinkle dimly through their sphereM
