LESBIA since far from you I've rang'dB
Our souls with fond affection glow notC
You say 'tis I not you have chang'dB
I'd tell you why but yet I know notC
-
-
-
-
Your polish'd brow no cares have crostC
And Lesbia we are not much olderD
Since trembling first my heart I lostC
Or told my love with hope grown bolderD
-
-
-
-
Sixteen was then our utmost ageE
Two years have lingering pass'd away loveF
And now new thoughts our minds engageE
At least I feel disposed to stray loveF
-
-
-
-
Tis I that am alone to blameG
I that am guilty of love's treasonH
Since your sweet breast is still the sameG
Caprice must be my only reasonH
-
-
-
-
I do not love suspect your truthI
With jealous doubt my bosom heaves notC
Warm was the passion of my youthI
One trace of dark deceit it leaves notC
-
-
-
-
No no my flame was not pretendedC
For oh I lov'd you most sincerelyJ
And though our dream at last is endedC
My bosom still esteems you dearlyJ
-
-
-
-
No more we meet in yonder bowersK
Absence has made me prone to rovingL
But older firmer hearts than oursK
Have found monotony in lovingL
-
-
-
-
Your cheek's soft bloom is unimpair'dC
New beauties still are daily bright'ningL
Your eye for conquest beams prepar'dC
The forge of love's resistless lightningL
-
-
-
-
Arm'd thus to make their bosoms bleedC
Many will throng to sigh like me loveF
More constant they may prove indeedC
Fonder alas they ne'er can be loveF
