To Belshazzar Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBC DEDEECDC FGFGGCGC

Belshazzar from the banquet turnA
Nor in thy sensual fulness fallB
Behold while yet before thee burnA
The graven words the glowing wallB
Many a despot men miscallB
Crown'd and anointed from on highC
But thou the weakest worst of allB
Is it not written thou must dieC
-
Go dash the roses from thy browD
Grey hairs but poorly wreathe with themE
Youth's garlands misbecome thee nowD
More than thy very diademE
Where thou hast tarnish'd every gemE
Then throw the worthless bauble byC
Which worn by thee ev'n slaves con temnD
And learn like better men to dieC
-
Oh early in the balance weigh'dF
And ever light of word and worthG
Whose soul expired ere youth decay'dF
And left thee but a mass of earthG
To see thee moves the scorner's mirthG
But tears in Hope's averted eyeC
Lament that even thou hadst birthG
Unfit to govern live or dieC
