To A Vain Lady Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Ah heedless girl why thus discloseA
What ne'er was meant for other earsB
Why thus destroy thine own reposeA
And dig the source of future tearsC
-
Oh thou wilt weep imprudent maidD
While lurking envious foes will smileE
For all the follies thou hast saidF
Of those who spoke but to beguileE
-
Vain girl thy ling'ring woes are nighG
If thou believ'st what striplings sayH
Oh from the deep temptation flyG
Nor fall the specious spoiler's preyH
-
Dost thou repeat in childish boastI
The words man utters to deceiveJ
Thy peace thy hope thy all is lostK
If thou canst venture to believeJ
-
While now amongst thy female peersB
Thou tell'st again the soothing taleL
Canst thou not mark the rising sneersB
Duplicity in vain would veilL
-
These tales in secret silence hushM
Nor make thyself the public gazeN
What modest maid without a blushM
Recounts a flattering coxcomb's praiseN
-
Will not the laughing boy despiseO
Her who relates each fond conceitP
Who thinking Heaven is in her eyesO
Yet cannot see the slight deceitP
-
For she who takes a soft delightQ
These amorous nothings in revealingR
Must credit all we say or writeQ
While vanity prevents concealingR
-
Cease if you prize your beauty's reignS
No jealousy bids me reproveJ
One who is thus from nature vainS
I pity but I cannot loveJ
-
