To A. ------ Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK DLDL JMJM

A
-
Oh did those eyes instead of fireB
With bright but mild affection shineC
Though they might kindle less desireB
Love more than mortal would be thineC
-
-
-
For thou art form'd so heavenly fairD
Howe'er those orbs may wildly beamE
We must admire but still despairD
That fatal glance forbids esteemE
-
-
-
When nature stamp'd thy beauteous birthF
So much perfection in thee shoneG
She fear'd that too divine for earthF
The skies might claim thee for their ownG
-
-
-
Therefore to guard her dearest workH
Lest angels might dispute the prizeI
She bade a secret lightning lurkH
Within those once celestial eyesI
-
-
-
These might the boldest Sylph appalJ
When gleaming with meridian blazeK
Thy beauty must enrapture allJ
But who can dare thine ardent gazeK
-
-
-
'Tis said that Berenice's hairD
In stars adorns the vault of heavenL
But they would ne'er permit thee thereD
Thou would'st so far outshine the sevenL
-
-
-
For did those eyes as planets rollJ
Thy sister lights would scarce appearM
E'en suns which systems now controulJ
Would twinkle dimly through their sphereM
