When Man expell'd from Eden's bowersB
A moment linger'd near the gateC
Each scene recall'd the vanish'd hoursB
And bade him curse his future fateC

But wandering on through distant climesD
He learnt to bear his load of griefE
Just gave a sigh to other timesD
And found in busier scenes reliefE

Thus Lady will it be with meF
And I must view thy charms no moreG
For while I linger near to theeF
I sigh for all I knew beforeG

In flight I shall be surely wiseH
Escaping from temptation's snareI
I cannot view my ParadiseJ
Without the wish of dwelling thereI
