The Harp The Monarch Minstrel Swept Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCDCDD EFEFGHIHIJ

The harp the monarch minstrel sweptA
The King of men the loved of HeavenB
Which Music hallow'd while she weptA
O'er tones her heart of hearts had givenB
Redoubled be her tears its chords are rivenB
It soften'd men of iron mouldC
It gave them virtues not their ownD
No ear so dull no soul so coldC
That felt not fired not to the toneD
Till David's lyre grew mightier than his throneD
-
It told the triumphs of our KingE
It wafted glory to our GodF
It made our gladden'd valleys ringE
The cedars bow the mountains nodF
Its sound aspired to heaven and there abodeG
Since then though heard on earth no moreH
Devotion and her daughter LoveI
Still bid the bursting spirit soarH
To sounds that seem as from aboveI
In dreams that day's broad light can not removeJ
