The First Kiss Of Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DBDC EBEC FCFC GCGC HCHC ICIC

Away with your fictions of flimsy romanceA
Those tissues of falsehood which folly has woveB
Give me the mild beam of the soul breathing glanceA
Or the rapture which dwells on the first kiss of loveC
-
Ye rhymers whose bosoms with phantasy glowD
Whose pastoral passions are made for the groveB
From what blest inpiration your sonnets would flowD
Could you ever have tasted the first kiss of loveC
-
If Apollo should e'er his assistance refuseE
Or the Nine be desposed from your service to roveB
Invoke them no more bid adieu to the museE
and try the effect of the first kiss of loveC
-
I hate you ye cold compositions of artF
Though prudes may condemn me and bigots reproveC
I court the effusions that spring from the heartF
Which throbes with delight to the first kiss of loveC
-
Your shepherds your flocks those fantastical themesG
Perhapes may amuse yet they never can moveC
Arcadia displays but a region of dreamsG
What are visions like these to the first kiss of loveC
-
Oh cease to affirm that man since his birthH
From Adam till now has with wretchedness stroveC
Some portion of paradise still is on earthH
And Eden revives in the first kiss of loveC
-
When age chills the blood when our pleasures are pastI
For years fleet away with the wings of the doveC
The dearest rememberance will still be the lastI
Our sweetest memorial the first kiss of loveC
