The Chain I Gave: From The Turkish Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF BGBG AHAH

The chain I gave was fair to viewA
The lute I added sweet in soundB
The heart that offer'd both was trueA
And ill deserved the fate it foundB
-
These gifts were charm'd by secret spellC
Thy truth in absence to divineD
And they have done their duty wellC
Alas they could not teach the thineD
-
That chain was firm in every linkE
But not to bear a stranger's touchF
That lute was sweet till thou could'st thinkE
In other hands its notes were suchF
-
Let him who from thy neck unboundB
The chain which shiver'd in his graspG
Who saw that lute refuse to soundB
Restring the chords renew the claspG
-
When thou wert changed they alter'd tooA
The chain is broke the music muteH
'Tis past to them and thee adieuA
False heart frail chain and silent luteH
